Oct 16 - The Frame and The Palm

We left Al Ain late morning for the long drive back to Dubai.  We passed a long fence that is the border between the UAE and Oman.  The fence runs right through the metropolitan area with Al Ain on one side and Al-Buraimi on the other (in Oman).  It’s a pretty tall fence but rather decorative.  Not oppressive.

Once we arrived in Dubai we headed straight for The Frame.  The Frame is the largest “picture” frame in the world (of course it is…its in the Emirates…everything is bigger here).  The frame is 492 feet high and 344 feet across.

There were some exhibits inside for viewing while waiting in line to take the elevator to the top.

The Frame is positioned such that “old” Dubai is on one side and new Dubai on the other.  The views from the top are pretty spectacular.

And a lot of the floor is magical glass that is frosted until you step onto it…then it clears up so you can see the ground straight below.  Not for the faint of heart or those who don’t like heights.

After spending the afternoon at the hotel we headed out across Dubai again.

This time we are headed for The View at the Palm.  This tower is almost 800 feet tall and gives pretty good views of The Palm…the world’s largest manmade island that is in the shape of a palm tree.  The views were pretty good but the island is so big that there was no way to get it all into one picture (it can be seen pretty well from outer space though).

We stayed for sunset but it wasn’t much.

And we stayed even longer to get some nighttime views.  But again, they weren't much...too much haze.

Then it was back to the hotel.  We ate at a great falafel place for dinner.  The weather seems the tiniest bit cooler than it was a week ago when we left for other parts of the UAE.
