This is a busy day with Covid Testing (for entry into Abu Dhabi) first thing in the morning and then a lot of driving around. We are definitely in a desert…lots of pretty dry landscaping.
However, they have put interesting things in all the round-abouts.
We stopped to see the Masjid Al Bidiyah, the oldest mosque in the Emirates. It is quite small and has been carbon dated to about 1446 AD. It was closed due to Covid but close to the road so we could see it.
We saw several pretty impressive water fountains
and they also had an artificial waterfall just beside the road.
Just adjacent was the Fujairah Amphitheater. Based on Greek and Roman architecture it is used for outdoor concerts, performances and such.
We also drove through an area that contained the oil storage tanks and refineries. There are a lot of tanks.
We stopped for exterior views of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque…beautiful.
The Fort Fujairah was quite a drive but it was interesting…
and had good views of the surrounding area.
Late in the day, after a couple of delays, we boarded a boat for a cruise. Turns out it wasn’t the cruise we had signed up for (to the Musandam area in Oman) but it was nice and relaxing. Paul went snorkeling. Nice way to end the day.
